Judges 17:6 — "In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did that which was right in his own eyes."
The verse from Judges 17:6 reveals a time of moral chaos when Israel had no king and each person followed their own will, leading to spiritual and societal collapse. This holds a mirror to our times, where fading values affect families, churches, and governments. Yet, God’s Word also lights a path back to revival.
1. Families Without Foundations (Judges 17:6; Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6)
Micah’s family illustrates the consequences of moral confusion—turning to theft, idolatry, and distorted values yet believing they serve God. Similarly, families today face breakdowns without biblical guidance. Parents are called to nurture children in the ways of the Lord, providing a foundation that endures (Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6). When families drift from God’s truth, society weakens.
2. Pastors Without Principles (John 10; 2 Timothy 4:2)
The Levite who served Micah for wages typifies pastors who preach for gain rather than God’s glory—hirelings who abandon the flock when challenges come (John 10). Paul’s charge to Timothy to preach the Word faithfully (2 Timothy 4:2) reminds us that godly leadership and courageous preaching are vital to sustaining spiritual health. Without it, moral decay spreads in the church and beyond.
3. Government Without God (Judges 18; Proverbs 29:2; Romans 1)
The tribe of Dan’s self-serving power grab reflects a government void of God’s justice, driven by greed and corruption. Scripture warns that when wicked rulers govern, people suffer (Proverbs 29:2), and societal collapse follows (Romans 1). We must seek leaders who fear God and uphold His righteousness to restore order and blessing.
Closing Encouragement: Return to God’s Authority for Revival
The answer to fading values is found in repentance and renewal—turning back to God through humble prayer, godly preaching, and biblical authority (2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 85:6; Acts 3:19). As believers, we must commit to restoration at home, church, and society by God’s power. Only then will we reverse the chaos and see our land flourish under His grace.
